In low shaft furnace rich oxygen blast we want to inject oxygen gas in air blower pipe. Please suggest whether this may raise the temperature is the system is of clod blast. March 11, 2010
Answers:
- Yes,but will also consume more fuel. However a more clear question with all parameters like the furnace itself and the fuel used to melt would be helpful- --Answer by S.K.MAULIK

Please explain annealing process, max.temperature, holding time, cooling rate and any other procedure involved for blackheart (ferrite and temper carbon). A little mottling is also observed in casting white casting. Does it have any impact on annealing. March 10, 2010
Answers:
- You need to control chemistry of melt to ensure totally white structure.Mottled structure will defeat the purpose of heat treatment. For best results to achieve totally ferritic structure following annealing cycle may be adopted.Heat the lot to 920 C in 24 hrs and soak at this temp for 36 to 48 hrs according to section.Bring down temp to 725 C in 4 hrs and soak at this temp for 12 hrs.Furnace cool the lot to 500 C .Expose the lot to natural air.- Answered by BALRAJ SETH

Please explain eutectic and eutectoid. We manufacture malleable pipe fittings. First white iron is made and then annealed. We see alot of cracks on the edges of casting where machining is required. Please explain the reason and to control it. Can you tell March 10, 2010
Answers:
- You need to look into chemistry of metal as well as heat treatment cycle and process as this is usual problem that occurs if proper are is not taken to controls parameters.I have explained heat treatment cycle in answer to similar question.- Answered by BALRAJ SETH
